I liked what I saw and heard, although I have not gotten through the entire series.
It will be good to have as a resource if I need to follow through on an issue.

GREAT PROGRAM , February 12, 2008
Review by : tbear

Our experience was a welcome change. Prior to this we had no one to turn to for ideas and suggestions because the people we knew all have normal children and they would not understand our situation. My only regret was that we wish we could have known of the program a lot sooner. But as they say, its never to late. Its been a great help to all of us and best of all, a pleasant and new found confidence in all of our family. Keep up the good work.

well my son is 12 and 100% defiant. i got this and tried it and it seemed like it was working, then he started backtalking in the form of "so is this what those dvd's told you to do, you cant be yourself." after all ive done all he would ever say is he hates me and wants to live with his mother, so two weeks ago i moved him out of my house and into his mothers house. i will not let him destroy myself or my family. he is gone and im out another chunck of money. thank you anyway.

It's the right approach, if you can make it work. , February 12, 2008

My wife and I are both physicians. We've got an incredibly difficult child to manage and found the program of cognitive behavior therapy compelling. The program is well packaged and presented, and is clearly the only kind of therapy that makes any sense of stands any chance of success.

The problem is that it's incredibly difficult to make it work when the child is incredibly recalcitrant -- no matter how good a parent and manager you are, or think you are. I don't think we did a good job of making it work and wound up sending our child to a military academy. It's actually an well-regarded college prep school, not one of the abusvie "boot camp" things we've heard so much about. Surprisingly enough, our daughter went of her own free will, which is a requirement for admission, although she said her motivation was primarily her enthusiasm for being "anywhere but here" with us.

So the program is great, but we're still struggling to make it work in our family.

The total transformation has helped me to be come a less emotional parent when dealing with explosive behavioral issues. Tough behavioral issues are now approached more rationally instead of more emotionally. The tantrums are much shorter because my emotional "fuel" has been taken out of the "fire".

I liked the program, I think there should be an advanced class for "seasoned" Oppositional Defiant Parents who, like myself, have gone through books, therapy, self-help, school meetings, etc, and need more advanced techniques. The basics of the program are great and they work, but more help would be nice.

I have only listened to the CDs so far and worked in the workbook. I plan on putting the detailed tools to work soon and expect to be using the support line too as well.

Review by : Mother of Difficult Daughter

I think this is a good program but I think it's based on the premise that you can actually reason with your child. When your teenager immediately goes on the defensive and is abusive as soon as a conversation starts, it's rather difficult to use the various techniques suggested. I have tried to use several of the techniques and some have worked but it's not that often I'm dealing with a rational teenager who really listens to what I'm saying. We will continue with the suggestions along with her regular therapy to see if we can make some positive changes.

THANKS!!!!!!!! , February 12, 2008

My son started on my scale of 2.5 and now having used the total tranformation program for about 2 months he is about an 7.5. We still deal with some behavior issues that haven't been totally resolved like getting to school every day on time and doing homework which he is working on, but we see less and less of the blatent disrespect and that is a big change. He has become much more responsible or at least willing to take the responsibility for what he needs to. He no longer blames me for everything. I wish that I had known about this program a long time ago!!! We laugh together every day now. And our house is no longer a battlefield but instead is peaceful. Thanks for making it available for people like me - it's so nice to have a new outlook on life for our family.

Effective Parenting Tools , February 12, 2008
Review by : Kim Hakim

I am completely impressed with the Total Transformation Program as a tool to develop effective parenting skills. Before listening to the program, I was constantly looking for excuses (i.e. sick, not enough sleep, etc.) to justify certain inappropriate behaviors because I was under the illusion that my daughter's behavior could not be attributed to my ineffective parenting style but rather something beyond my control. In fact, my daughter was in therapy for a short while and the theraspist approach, like mine, was to concentrate on why my daughter was feeling a certain way or acting a certain way and not on how she was being parented. After applying many of the techniques in the program, I have noticed a significant change in behavior and am happy to report that our life has become a little calmer since the power struggles have become less frequent. Thank you.

This program will be great for me when my kids get older. This program is a liitle hard to implement with toddlers up to 5. That's the ages of my kids. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I am looking foreward to using as my kids get older though.

I enjoyed the program but feel like I need to go back and refresh my memory or come up with additional strategies. Every day is a challenge with my 10 year old boy as opposed to my 8 and 4 year old boys. The program was really eye opening and there is still alot I need to do with my 10 year old. The techniques work most of the time with my youngest but I am still in need of assistance with the 10 year old and sending him to Army Boot Camp is sounding better and better.

I have read just about every book under the sun about discipline and adhd kids. The information was lacking to say the least. When I came across The Total Transformation program, at first i was apprehensive because of the price. Then I got to a point where I had no where else to go and decided to give it a shot. i am happy I made that decision. James is brilliant and his knowledge is outstandingly direct. I tell everyone I know about this program. It is even good information for kids that don't have defiant issues so I tell people with kids that behave. This program is priceless...I wish I could have access to James personally though because sometimes it is hard to be consistent as a single parent. I still need to apply all the the tools myself but from what I have applied it has been a Godsend. Thanks a million!

I think there is so much information given that it is almost impossible to use the program. I can't remember all the things he talks about and so it's hard to be consistant with this program

Peace and Happiness...At Long Last! , February 12, 2008

Our home had been a virtual battle zone for years. Although our twelve year old son also required other therapy,(neurofeedback)it was the addition of The Total Transformation Program that gave us the tools we needed to be better parents and to more effectively guide our child toward better behaviors. The most valuable lesson we learned was the need for BOTH parents to unite, set boundaries and stay on the same page.At first, we chuckled at how many times in the Total Transformation series, we are advised to "say___and walk away"... or to "stop the car", etc but that WORKS. There have been dramatic, positive changes over the past few months! We have strongly recommended this program to several friends who are also struggling with various behavioral issues.

It was a great program I liked being give tools for me to use with my son. Other options we have used did not provide this and they ended up not working.

It would be nice it legacy parenting had a list of agenceys or web sites that can offer referals based on location.

I was very please with the tapes, it helped me to better understand my daughter, her behavior, and improved our relationship. Although, the tapes usually are geared towards adolescents, it seemed to work beautifully for my seven year old too!

The program is successful when used because of its continuity. Everything seemed to be connected and the logic was useful. I adapted and used it for dealing with abberant behavior in my students.

Excellent tool for parenting oppositional children , February 12, 2008

This program gives you the tools required to parent a child who has a strong will and try to channel their anger in a different way so that you have a child who is less defiant and more cooperative.

I am glad that I ordered the Total Transformation Program. Before getting the program, my son had low self esteem. He was having problems in school. He was getting low grades. Now I am amazed at how fast his grades are improving. He has more confidence in himself and he is much happier. Everyone around him is much happier, too.
