I was hesitant to order the program but willing to try anything. My 9 year old son was in control and I was desperate for an earthquake to shake things back into order. I had already raised two girls, now ages 26 and 22, and was pretty successful. That could have been part of the problem. I KNEW how to raise children - to the point that my friends wanted to send their kids to my house for "summer camp". Why was raising this 9 year old boy so different/difficult? Boys verses girls was not a satisfactory answer for me. The largest benefit of the program was that it allowed/required me to listen and work the program within the quietness and privacy of my own bedroom, or that is where I chose to work the program, usually during the wee hours of the night. The benefit to this was that I didn't have to defend myself or my parenting skills to anyone. I had to face the music totally without defense and come to realize that I really might not be doing something right. Being a perfectionist, a trait that my son also possesses, makes it difficult to admit and change or repair something that you feel is not broken. Parenting is something I take, and always have taken, very seriously. All of the ingredients were in my head but I had to realize that I was not necessarily using all of them effectively. Realizing my fear of his outbursts was my first clue to realizing I was not in control. I then let my guard down and accepted all of the content of the program and within days saw positive results with my son. I especially enjoy the frequent emails and articles that help me stay on track. For someone that knew it all, and had previuosly done it, the program was an awakening for me that changed all our lives for the better and I am ever so grateful.
